  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts Optional; can substitute with pecans or omit.

Method

Preparation
  1. Before you begin, make sure your butter is softened to room temperature and your eggs aren’t cold from the fridge.
Making the Cookie Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in hot water and add to the batter with the salt, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the flour until just combined, then fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded spoonfuls of cookie dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 2-3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Storage
  1. Store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  2. You can freeze the baked cookies for up to three months, or freeze raw cookie dough balls.

Notes

For best flavor and texture, serve warm with milk or crumble over vanilla ice cream. Optional to chill dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
